It’s not a race, so almost any kind of bike that you are comfortable with will work. Unicycle, bicycle, tandem, you name it! If it’s a bike and it’s not motorized, it can do THE RIDE.
There is no rain date for THE RIDE.
The 108 km Ride will have a 7:30 a.m. staggered start.
The 50 km Ride will have an 8:00 a.m. staggered start.

The Ottawa Hospital Foundation is asking all riders to raise a minimum of $1,500.
As a member of a team, your team fundraising total can be shared amongst all members to qualify them for their minimum $1,500 fundraising commitment. For example: a team of two needs to raise $3,000; a team of five, $7,500; and a team of 10 needs to raise $15,000. As long as there are enough funds under the team’s total – regardless of who actually raised it – to meet the minimum fundraising commitment, all members of the team can ride on September 13.
THE RIDE is a fundraising event and our goal is to make the biggest impact possible on cancer research and care at The Ottawa Hospital. So whatever distance you choose to ride, your impact will be the same.

All participants must raise $1500 in order to participate. We understand this is a significant commitment that we are asking you to make, but we are committed to helping you achieve that goal, through fundraising tips and online tools. We are also committed to ensuring that your experience during that day is outstanding by providing breakfast, refreshing pit stops, and a celebration and meal at the end of the day. And ultimately, funds will go toward crucial cancer research taking place in Ottawa; some of which is the most promising in the world. Though this amount may seem daunting, we hope you will raise it in honour of those who are fighting this disease and working to eradicate it.

Yes, simply contact us at 613-798-5555, ext. 19832 to arrange what you need for your fundraising event.
To enter cash and cheque donations, log in to your fundraising profile using your username and password. Click on the Fundraising tab at the top of the screen, then select manage cash or cheques from the left-hand menu. To enter monies from a fundraising event, select the “Donation from an event or cash lump sum” option. This amount will only be reflected on your fundraising page once we have received the funds.
Just click on ‘Sponsor a Rider or Team’ button located on the homepage of THE RIDE website and then select an Individual or a Team.
Donors who donate online with a valid email address will automatically receive a tax receipt via email. Donors who pledge more than $15 by cash or cheque will receive their receipt by mail if they provide a valid mailing address. Receipts will be received by the end of the year, or earlier depending on when the donation was received.

THE RIDE participants must be 18 years of age or older on September 13, 2015. Although we appreciate the interest of all individuals who would like to participate, we will only be able to accept those who meet the age requirement. Volunteer opportunities are available for individuals 16 years and older. If you’d like more information, please contact us at 613-798-5555, ext. 19832.
Several cancer survivors ride every year and our plan is to highlight their heroic efforts! Should you decide to participate you will be asked upon joining to identify as a survivor.

Funds from THE RIDE support basic, clinical and translational cancer research at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. The funding typically supports the purchase of critical equipment or helps recruit and retain quality scientists, staff and trainees. Our scientists do oversee the conduct of important projects that rely on animal research in order to determine whether an idea holds the promise to become a new therapy. However, these projects are typically funded by external grants that the researchers secure from peer-reviewed agencies. For all projects that do require the use of animals, the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute abides by guidelines from the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) regarding the ethical use and care of animals in science. All CCAC guidelines are based on scientific evidence and have undergone extensive peer review.
The Ottawa Hospital Foundation transfers funds to the Hospital twice a year. Those funds are used as they come in and benefit patients today.
